Cafe du malheur, would be a more appropriate title.
The 1st time I went there in 1994, I booked a table at 4:30 for 7:30. We arrived & ordered some wine while browsing the menu. Came to order & was told it was a restricted menu. Bit annoyed at that, anyway we ordered. Food (?) arrived - steaks needed a guillotine to cut through them, vegetables - tinned obviously been kept warm since the morning - uggh! We walked out.
Stayed away 4 years, ate their 1 night very nice meal, noticed a different person in charge.
Oh dear! It must have been his night off. Went again shortly afterwards. Service appalling as he didn't have enough staff - meal average.
Went again oh dear! He didn't have the wine from the Rhone region I ordered & told me that the suggested replacement a wine from Burgundy would taste the same. I'm no Master of Wine - but I do recognise BULLSHIT.
Stayed away 8 years dropped in for lunch on the Saturday of French Market.
Ordered Moule et Frites, after 5 minutes I noticed some of the customers around me complaining that they hadn't got quite what they ordered potatoes instead of rice things and things like that. The waitress having a hard job explaining things had run out/broken down. And what did I get??? Yeah that's right.... Moule & BOILED spuds!!
I asked the proprietor why? Fryer broken down.
But of course any decent person would come to his customer & give him a choice.
10/10 for arrogance!!
You have been warned. As for me next time I will go again McClements, more expensive - but I've never been disappointed.
